Computer Programming, often called software engineering or development, is another extensive sector of IT. The job has been around and growing for as many years as computers themselves have. Pretty much all electronic-devices would be nothing more than 'dumb' boxes if they did not contain software systems. Virtually every bit of technology that exists incorporates a program within it. Admittedly, much of it is what we refer to as firmware, or a simple operating system that allows the equipment to operate; video recorders and DVD Players are good examples. Software is everywhere - it's what lets you setup the recording of a programme on your television set, & what's driving the navigation menu on the DVD or Blu-ray you're watching. When you enjoy a film on DVD, what's actually taking place is a piece of software has pulled the 1's and 0's off the disc, and decrypted them at amazing speed into video-information.

As with any technical certification, an exact goal needs to be reached on where it is you want to reach, to ensure the right path to that point can be worked out. Accepting a training program in some sort of ad-hoc manner might easily result in you arriving at an entirely different position to the one you believed you had been working towards. The I.T. field can feel incredibly unclear to an outsider, and software certifications frequently just appear like a list of acronyms! You may save yourself months or sometimes years of wasted time, and a lot of money with a knowledgeable conversation.

Programming then, at it's simplest level, is merely telling an item of electronic equipment in a particular 'language' how to carry out its job. As you may imagine, that hugely over- simplifies the task. You'll probably find as much as 100 distinctive programs running behind the scenes of your 'Windows' desk-top computer. These are what actually allow you to do anything since they maintain the entire system. In fact there are two different types of programs used in computers. There's the operating-system software, which is low level, & the applications software. One of the most respected operating systems in the world is Microsoft Windows. An entire suite of programs have to inter-act here to ensure your PC does anything you ask of it - from running your desktop space, to managing your interaction with it, to connecting you to the web or your network etc.

We're now seeing a fast progressing move towards internet-based and network-based software, as the idea of 'Cloud computing' becomes a reality. This is the term which means that all your files are located out in the ether, so they can be accessed from any place. Even the raw processing is performed remotely on one of the computer systems in the cloud. Ultimately all you're going to require is really a fairly basic 'terminal' that's connected to a wireless or wired Network.
